Spotless Africa Limited, a Zambian deep cleaning company offering a range of services to both corporate and residential clients, recognises the importance of improving the cleanliness of the environment people live and work in.

Company Principal Manager, Mwansa Chalo, explains that Spotless was inspired to partner with Agova owing to their reputation of growing businesses by tapping into the social value component and maximising productive output.

According to Mr. Chalo, Agova’s intervention in helping the company grow its sales volumes was timely in that it benefited from Agova’s “SME Shared Value Hub” service offering, which acted as a catalyst to stimulate Spotless’ growth.

“The business consultancy came in very handy, they (Agova) have what they call the ‘SME Shared Value Hub’ so we’ve been renting office space from there. In the very early stages, the issue of business consultancy was very big for us; they helped us put in a lot of systems, understand a lot of things of what was needed for us to grow the business,” Chalo says in an interview.

Reflecting on the initial challenges Spotless faced prior to working with Agova, Mr. Chalo observed that the company needed a clearer mapping process to measure its growth and expand its clientele.

“I would say the systems, the process mapping for the business itself because with the business model that we were trying was, firstly, how do we create a social impact? I come from a background of community work, I had set-up a charity organisation before I started my first business. So, for me, that was key, and that’s what they (Agova) helped us do because that’s actually their forte: they are really focused on what is known as shared value, like, ‘how do businesses create social impact whilst doing their business?’ That’s a big thing for us,” explains Chalo, who also credited Agova for helping Spotless adapt to the ‘new normal’ during COVID-19.

“We had a target of disinfecting over 10,000 hectares in 12 months, which we have been able to achieve so far and that is all because we sat down with partners like Agova; they helped us do grant-writing proposals and we managed to get a grant from Prospero that helped pump in capital into the business!”
