Our Story
We were born out of the Engineers Without Borders Canada incubator, which supports innovative and transformative ventures in Africa with seed funding and technical support. Following this initial incubation, we were supported by local Zambian NGO, Musika, which facilitates private sector investment in agricultural markets, with a particular focus on emerging and smallholder farmers. Musika co-invested in our projects and gave us an entry point with large commercial agribusinesses as well as SMEs.
We began our work in Zambia and 7 years later, we are still based here as we explore new neighbouring markets. Since then, we have been supporting a range of businesses across a variety of sectors with their growth strategies, reaching over 90,000 low-income customers with improved services.
Our vision is that society’s toughest challenges are tackled by the private sector. Not out of corporate social responsibility, but because there is a business case for them to do so.
Our Philosophy
We believe in “Shared Value”, a term founded by Harvard professors Michael Porter and Mark Kramer which refers to “a management strategy in which companies find business opportunities in social, environmental, or economic problems”. The principles of Shared Value are that companies can improve their competitiveness by finding business opportunities in societal challenges. (Source: Harvard Business Review, 2011)
In line with this Philosophy, we consider that the financial interests of our clients are critical to ensuring the sustainability of the projects that we work on. We therefore strive to ensure that our work results in both commercial value and socio-economic impact.
