The Problem
Farmers in Mansa were facing a living income gap, struggling to achieve sustainable income levels. Agova was tasked with exploring aquaculture as a potential solution to close this gap and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
The Solution
Agova conducted market research to assess the viability of aquaculture business models for farmers in Mansa. Working with an aquaculture expert, the team examined existing models, identified market barriers, and analyzed the regional context. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, Agova gathered data that enabled the development of economic models for interventions aimed at addressing these barriers and enhancing farmers’ income potential.
Results
Agova provided a comprehensive economic model for aquaculture interventions that directly addressed farmers’ challenges in the market. This model informed Heifer’s long-term strategy in the aquaculture sector, guiding future initiatives to improve the income of farmers in Mansa.
